United Nations Hiring for Associate Librarian (Client Services) [Temporary] Job at New York, NY Full Time
This position is located in the Department of Global Communications (DGC), Dag Hammarskjöld Library. The Library’s primary functions aim to connect Member State delegations, United Nations staff, researchers and world citizens with trusted information/data, facts and human knowledge about and for the United Nations. It provides a foundation for facilitation, dissemination, use, access to, engagement with, and preservation of information and knowledge in support for the work, principles and mission of the Organization. The incumbent reports to the Unit Chief, Client Services.
This post is available as soon as possible until 30 September 2023 with the possibility of extension.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Associate Librarian will be responsible for the following duties:
- Provides research and reference services to library clients through email, online chat and in-person consultations.
- Participate in the creation, review and maintenance of research resources and tools including the research guides and frequently asked questions databases.
- Responsible for the Library’s gifts programme.
- Provide training on UN information including research tools and resources and participate in Library outreach activities.
- Reviews a variety of sources to identify appropriate materials that meet the information needs of the Organization and its information clientele.
- Uses knowledge of institutional information needs to evaluate, recommend, and acquire printed and electronic materials to be added to the Library collections, including evaluation and management of gifts.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Education
A first-level university degree in library science, information science or related field is required.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in library work, information network administration or related area is required.
Experience in library services delivery is desirable.
Experience in working in an international or IGO setting is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required; and knowledge of French is an advantage. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.

United Nations Considerations
