Department
OPERATED OFFSHORE OIL FIELD DEVELOPMENT
Primary purpose of job
As a member of interdisciplinary reservoir study team, participate in field reservoir managemen. Participation includes
planning, coordinating, and controlling the collection, analysis, and evaluation of petrophysical data for well and reservoir
studies. Through these efforts, the candidate will generate appropriate development plans and provide petrophysical
support for QatarEnergy operated Idd El Shargi Oil Field.
Must have strong teamwork skills and experience working in a multicultural and multidiscipline environment. Must be able to
communicate effectively with peers, less experienced staff, field staff, and management.

• Plan and supervise the acquisition of logging operations and analyze/interpret petrophysical/formation data.
• Aid geo-steering horizontal and deviated wells to meet target objectives; provide petrophysical input into integrated

reservoir/field development studies for model building and updating.

• Develop petrophysical model to characterize reservoir fluid saturations for 3D geostatic simulation models and

development plans ensuring petrophysical uncertainty ranges are captured and understood.

• Develop and integrate petrophysical inputs into short-term (drilling and workover projects), medium-term (reservoir

voidage management) and long-term (field development and asset value optimization) activities.

• Integrate both open and cased hole logs as well as routine core and SCAL data to better characterize the reservoir and

fluid properties.

• Principal party for development and implementation of coring projects and follow-up routine and special core analysis

working with contract companies to develop and execute a sound program.

• QA/QC petrophysical data and maintain petrophysical databases including real time data links.
• Prepare PLT logging program; perform production logging data QC and interpretation

Experience & Skills

• Minimum 10 years of experience as petrophysicist. expert in petrophysical interpretation and modelling, familiar with

advanced logging technology.

• Able to work with minimum supervision as per QatarEnergy standard policies, guidelines and procedures; exposed to

working in multicultural integrated asset team environment.

• Experience in appraisal and development of mature oil & gas fields; familiar with Arabian Gulf geological settings,

knowledge of various carbonate depositional systems.

• Experience in laboratory analysis techniques (CCAL and SCAL).
• Experience in open-hole formation evaluation of vertical, deviated, and horizontal wells, including MDT and DST.
• Experience in cased-hole and production logging technology and interpretation (PLT/FSI/RST).
• Experience in statistical and pattern recognition techniques (Neural networks, fuzzy logic and multidimensional

histograms) techniques.

• Must have strong teamwork skills with experience working in a multi-cultural environment.
• Must be able to communicate effectively with peers, less experienced staff, field staff, and management.

Software Knowledge/ Experience

• MS-Office suite
• Interactive petrophysics
• Techlog
• Petrel, Crystal ball/@Risk and database software knowledge will be an advantage

Decision Making Authority

• Within broad guidelines set by the Assistant Manager/Head, the position is answerable for his/her actions, and for the

consequences therein; work requires only periodic monitoring by Assistant Manager/Head.

• Within broad guidelines set by Assistant Manager/Head, the position is authorized to take decisions for an optimum well

placement based on reservoir fluid characterization and distribution via a near real-time monitoring of wireline/LWD
operations.

• Recommend operations entailing annual expenditure of millions of QR and generate hundreds of millions of QR revenue

to the company. In many instances, the success or failure of an implemented plan will not become apparent until many
years into the project, after the entire capital expenditure has been expended.

• Identify and leverage the key variables in finding solutions to wide-ranging problems involving multiple disciplines.
• Identify subsurface uncertainties and develop mitigations/solutions by assessing alternatives and related

risk/reward.

• Due to the operational nature of the position the incumbent may be required to work for extended periods; incumbent will

need the mental rigour to deal with frequent disruptions outside working hours and to make optimal operational decisions
regardless of the nature or timing of the disruption.

• Ensure that relevant environmental and safety standards are enacted for all projects and activities under his/her authority

and produce high Quality “fit-for-purpose” deficiency free work; through the Quality of the work, establish a high degree of
trust between the different disciplines of the team.
Education

• Minimum a BSc degree in Engineering/Geosciences/Applied Physics; a MSc degree in related discipline is

desirable.

• Attended advanced petrophysical courses.
