Job purpose
Perform both, projects and routine analyses of laboratory samples; under Team Leader Laboratory scope’s, thought (1) Performing routine analyses of scheduled samples during normal operation of plants, data entry and monitoring the progress of experiments entrusted to scrutinize laboratory results for commonplace procedures, and (2) Assist research staff in bench or pilot scale testing of processes related with Refinery /Aromatics processes using calibrated lab instruments; in order to ensure continuous provision of laboratory services and give the effective solutions and commit to related technical requirements for business performance, profitability and optimization.
The position will act in accordance with the Group’s Mission, Vision, Values & Strategies, as well as, policies, guidelines and standards, supported by an IT Technology platform, HSE standards, Omani’s government & other legal justification’s, and best international practices in consonance with national objectives.
Main tasks and responsibilities
At analyst level:
Gathers, interprets, and uses data to develop actionable steps that will improve processes and optimize results.
Performs qualitative and quantitative analyses, including LIMS data entry, of process intermediates and wastewater effluent, finished products and blending samples using accepted analytical methodologies.
Perform collection of samples and performing laboratory chemical and biological tests on water, wastewater, bio solids, recycled water, and industrial wastes;
Perform field investigations and designated projects to determine and minimize wastewater problems.
Perform a variety of standardized routine sanitary tests and chemical analyses of water, wastewater effluents, and works with other professional staff in the operation of a testing laboratory.
Perform a variety of chemical and biological tests in the field and in the laboratory on samples collected.
Prepare and standardize chemical reagents and solutions.
Assemble and record test data, prepare draft charts, graphs, and written reports.
Maintaining the integrity of procedures and recording professional activity for peer review.
Develop new testing procedures and technologies.
Clean and maintain laboratory and field equipment.
Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on laboratory equipment.
Calibrate lab instruments as needed.
Evaluation, calibration and validation of analytical testing instrumentation.
Evaluate information to determine compliance with specifications or standards
Interpret results, databases for specifications, methods and standards.
At Snr level:
Lab Analysis process:
Coordinates the lab analysis needs of functional departments / areas
Establishes priorities for Empower and Laboratory Systems requirements gathering, system design and implementation.
Receive and assess the most robust / complex information and gathers, interprets, and uses complex data to develop actionable steps that will improve processes and optimize results. However, can involve also the performance of basic standardized laboratory tests involving the chemical, biological and physical analysis of water and wastewater
Include also the accountabilities described for analyst level
Lab equipment & Documentation system process:
Technical/project Lead on Instrument Qualification Projects.
Responsible for Laboratory equipment and instruments.
Responsible for Laboratory System documentation, including, converting User Requirement Specifications to a Detail Design Specification, writing Configuration Test Plans and summary reports.
Processes Laboratory Systems change control requests
Lab trends, Innovation and transfer of Knowledge process:
Looking- for trends or areas for improvement and execute end-to end continuous improvement initiatives within lab operations team to enhance quality and service while reducing costs
Trains other Laboratory System trainers.
Key interactions
Internal: Manager, Team Leaders, Engineers, Chemist and Technicians.
External: Service providers and Company Suppliers.
Notable Working Conditions. Field Operations and office environment, Moderate to intensive computer screen use.
Education requirements
Minimum qualification required is Bachelor of Science in (chemistry).
Language requirements
Excellent knowledge of written, read, and spoken English (required) Arabic – Native (desirable)

3-5+ years of relevant experience
Experience in refinery / Petchem. Laboratory and environmental laboratory, of wastewater treatment plant laboratory, industrial waste inspection, and/or closely related experience.
Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory analytical equipment, petroleum test methods and test significance and chemical analysis
Experienced with products specifications and LIMS
Basic practices and methods of chemical, biochemical and bacteriological testing and analysis.
Laboratory and field safety and equipment and material care and maintenance.
Effective techniques for dealing with the public and dealing with basic customer complain
Knowledge in the use of LIMS and SAP application
Good knowledge in Quality Assurance, Quality Control and HSE plans.
Familiar with techniques for ensuring data integrity with various integration of information/ reports
