Job Summary

The classroom teacher creates a positive learning environment to facilitate the personal, social, and intellectual development of students. In order to respond to the individual needs and abilities of students.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials congruent with course standards; provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student and subgroups of students
• Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified administrative regulations and procedures of DeBakey High School
• Help students to see the importance of math in their everyday lives
• Evaluates academic and social growth of students, prepares report cards, and keeps accurate attendance and grade records
• Provides for safe storage and proper use of materials, equipment and tools
• Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior for a productive learning environment during class sessions, and field trips
• Evaluates each student’s growth in knowledge and skills in the course being taught
• Communicates with parents, team leaders, and school counselors on student progress
• Supervises students in assigned out of classroom activities during the working day
• Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities
• Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities
• Analyze performance data in order to provide targeted instructions based on students’ individual needs and measure it against the school learning outcomes
• Present content according to the guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations
• Work with other faculty members to determine instructional goals, objectives and strategies
• Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process
• Plan and monitor work flow of instructional assistants and volunteers as appropriate
• Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing, provide feedback to students and parents, and reflect on teaching
• Support mission and vision of Debakey School by serving as a positive role model for students
• Ensure to sensor materials that is culturally sensitive to the host country and not to impose personal opinions
• Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students
• Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook
• Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities
• Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly to students, parents, and staff
• Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community
• Participate in staff development activities that improve job-related skills and professional growth
• Compile, maintain and file all reports, records and other required documents
• Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required
• Demonstrate knowledge of content and pedagogy
• Create an environment of respect and rapport
• Provide feedback to students
• Coordinate and supervise field trips with the help of team leaders
• Attend and assist when necessary with school events such as musical programs, athletics, and students’ recognition ceremonies, graduation and open house
• Ensure that school’s policies are observed during all activities and and demonstrate flexibility and responsiveness
• Follow and implement school’s policies and procedures
• Adhere to all School’s health and safety policies
• Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director or other administrative staff, which is consistent with the general requirements and qualifications of the position

Qualifications:

• Minimum Bachelor’s degree, but preferred Master’s degree from an accredited college/university
• Teaching License/Certificate preferred
• Teaching experience in accredited schools
