Project Information:

Saudi Arabian Military Industries (SAMI) is a national holding company owned 100% by the Public Investment Fund (PIF), a sovereign wealth fund owned by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). SAMI was established in May 2017 to develop the military industrial infrastructure necessary to help the Saudi Vision 2030 aim of localizing military spending to at least 50% by the end of the decade. It commenced operations in January 2018. SAMI is working with numerous Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and local contractors to establish the military industrial infrastructure across the Kingdom. It is organized into 5 Divisions: Aeronautics, Defense Electronics, Land Systems, Weapons & Missiles and Emerging Technologies; Naval interests are covered within the Weapons & Missiles portfolio. Bechtel was contracted in August 2020 to provide a Facility Management Team (FMT) to develop and implement a Facility Masterplan to help align SAMI`s programs. This has led to the opportunity to provide a Project Management/Construction Management (PM/CM) team (approximately 90 strong) to manage the design and construction of a major military industrial facility near Riyadh over the next 3-4 years.

Position Overview:

This position is for a Junior Structure Engineer who will help in engineering design, field support services and oversight to the Design and Build Contractor and other services for various facilities and systems designs associated with SAMI projects. The successful candidate must have strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving abilities, can-do attitude, and the desire to innovate solutions for timely and cost-effective project execution.

Job Responsibilities (include but not limited to):

• Ability to work independently, use engineering judgment, and devise new approaches to solving problems.
• Perform work using Industry Standard Engineering Software and appropriate 2-D and 3-D computer-aided design and computer-aided engineering tools.
• Review contractor Structural Design drawings & calculations.
• Visit construction sites to monitor progress and resolve construction issues in a timely manner.
• Provide technical solutions to unforeseen problems that arise during the contract duration in coordination with the construction contractor.
• Assist in identifying the need for a modification to scope, cost and/or schedule based on collaboration with the construction contractor and/or other entities
• Perform remote 3D Model design reviews with multiple design offices.
• May be subject to graduate rotational learning and development program in different functions and departments on the project.

Basic Qualifications:

• Grade 22 – Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural engineering from an accredited college or university with 0-3 years of related experience
• Grade 23 – Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural engineering from an accredited college or university with 3-5 years of related experience

Minimum Qualifications:

• Hands-on Microsoft office programs and other computer programs.
• Ability to independently execute the detailed design of steel and/or concrete structures
• Good knowledge of engineering deliverables, such as drawings, specifications, and material requisitions and construction methods for concrete and steel structures.
• Experience with Revit/CAD design tools.
• Registered with Saudi council of Engineers.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Demonstrated leadership in a team-based environment and capable of decision making based on codes, standard and specifications
• Must be a Saudi Citizen.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with Facility Management, Project Management, or Construction Management on commercial/industrial type facilities.
• Basic knowledge of engineering design theory, systems, calculations, and application of engineering methods
• Ability to perform constructability reviews.
• Experience in manufacturing or industrial type plant.
• Experience with an Electronic Document management system (ACONEX or similar).
• ME/MS in Structural Engineering.
